Marijuana Research Bill

Aug 31, 2023

If you’ve been wondering about Biden and his plans cannabis for this term, then wonder no more. After two years of presidency he has officially signed a marijuana research bill into law.  He has now made history by enacting the first piece of standalone federal cannabis reform legislation, just this past Friday. While he is still opposed to making cannabis a federally  legalized drug, he has really helped to pave the way for cannabis reform.

With this new law, it will make it easier for researchers to be able to study cannabis and its  many effects. Since research is essential to understanding cannabis, it is truly amazing for this  bill to have been signed. Now researchers can study larger quantities of cannabis, as well as get  more information on the therapeutic effects it provides. This new law could make a difference in helping millions of Americans with ailments like chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety disorders, and  more.

This new legislation will also help with pushing the FDA to create cannabis derived  medications. Any accredited medical and osteopathic institution will be able to cultivate their  own cannabis to help further their research. The DEA will also be mandated to approve  applications to be manufacturers of cannabis-derived, FDA approved medications. In addition,  the Department of Health and Human Services will be appointed to look into the health benefits  as well as anything that might be inhibiting further research abilities.

While there have been other versions of this same bill made a few years ago, this is the first  time that the bill has made it all the way to the desk of the president, and been signed. This is an  incredible step for cannabis research, and it will go a long way in helping to further  understanding of cannabis. This legislation is only the start of what is to come, as many  politicians have pledged to work on ending the war on drugs with a series of new proposals. The  federal government has long since stood in the way of understanding the full extent of medicinal  properties that cannabis has, but that is no longer the case.

Not only are researchers more at ease now that they can study without such strict guidelines,  but the process to be approved to study cannabis is also much more lenient. Under this new law,  the government is responsible for providing an uninterrupted supply of marijuana for the  researchers, so they can request as much cannabis for research as they could possibly need. The struggle to get all of the information about cannabis is far from over, but this new law is certainly  a step in the right direction.

I’m sure that most dog owners have wondered what would happen if they gave their dog a bit of cannabis, or maybe they’ve had a dog get into their stash and are wondering if it is considered safe.
