Is Cannabis safe for your dog?

I’m sure that most dog owners have wondered what would happen if they gave their dog a bit of cannabis, or maybe they’ve had a dog get into their stash and are wondering if it is considered  safe. With the way that the bodies of dogs behave, studies have found that while cannabis is not  safe for dogs, CBD can have similar benefits for dogs as it does for humans.

Since dogs have more cannabinoid receptors, they can experience symptoms and toxicity far  faster than their non-furry friends. It can definitely be tempting to see how your dog will react to  being high, but it can have some very negative effects. While ingesting cannabis is not always,  rarely ever, something that leads to death in dogs it can have other serious effects.

It is important to contact your veterinarian if your dog comes into contact with cannabis,  though you may only have to monitor them until the cannabis has finished passing through their  system. The good news is that CBD products for dogs are on the rise, so it is easier to find a  product that will work best for your dog.

However, CBD can have the same benefits for dogs that it gives humans, making it a great  option for dogs who have things like pain or anxiety. Of course the research is still early on, but  there have been some very promising studies. Since CBD is not regulated by the FDA it can be  hard to make sure that your dog is getting the right amount, so it is still important to be vigilant  and consult a vet if you want more information.

Of course, like most things that are still being studied, owners should still make sure to  monitor their dogs intake of CBD, to be sure they won’t have any liver complications. They can  also get CBD in many different forms, depending on what will work best for the symptoms that  are present. While research is still in the early stages, it is very likely that CBD is a positive  option for many dogs with symptoms of anxiety, pain, arthritis, and cancer.
